As you all know by now, the band I've seen most often in concert was the one and only Grateful Dead.  Folks often ask me how could  I go see the same band more than 50 times? The answer is easy - no 2 Grateful Dead shows were ever the same.  You could go see the band 3 or 4 nights in a row and never hear a song repeated.  Even when they were playing 6 and 9 night runs at Madison Square Garden in the 1980s and 1990s, the band rarely repeated a song.  and when they did, it would never show up in the same place in the set list.  For example, Jack Straw might open the first set one night, and close it another night.  Some times the band would play the first few verses of a tune such as Dark Star at one concert, and finish it several nights later at another show!  You went night after night because each show was unique, and you never knew when the magic would happen, when all the stars would align, and the band would play one of those shows for the ages, a night like 9/10/1991 or 9/18/1987 or 10/16/1989 or 09/03/1977, 4 shows I attended that were so good they are all now official releases! You lived for those moments and kept going back in hopes you get to experience one more!  So, in honor of those moments, the band's 50th anniversary and the 6th anniversary of this blog,we'll be featuring plenty of music from the Dead this month.  We start with 2 shows today and tomorrow from the Berkeley Community Theater in 1984, concerts that Deadbase has ranked as two of the top 5 from that year.  This one is a soundboard recording from November 2, 1984, 31 years ago today.  Stop back tomorrow for the 2nd show from 1984.
