At an Orlando, Florida concert Thursday night, Justin Bieber paid tribute to the victims of the June shooting that left 49 dead at the city's Pulse nightclub. During a performance of the title track off his 2015 album Purpose, Bieber projected the names of the attack's victims on a screen behind him.
"Thank you for tonight," Bieber tweeted after the concert. "Don't ever be afraid to be yourself. #OrlandoStrong"
Bieber also include Christina Grimmie's name in the tribute. The former Voice contestant – and close friend of Bieber's ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez – was shot and killed in Orlando the night before the Pulse shootings in an unrelated gun attack.
Since the Orlando nightclub shooting on June 12, celebrities in the entertainment sphere from Broadway stars to the cast of The Walking Dead have honored the tragedy's victims. Bieber joins the numerous musicians, including Frank Ocean, Janet Jackson, and Billy Joel, who have shown solidarity with those affected. Friday, singer Rachel Platten released an acoustic version of her 2015 hit "Fight Song" to benefit the cause.
